Secrets of Voice-Over Success

JOAN BAKER

Joan Baker is a widely known and very highly regarded talent throughout the voice-over industry, and she enjoys performing in front of the camera as well. She is an Oobr Award-winning stage actress, with numerous film, television, and on-camera commercials to her credit. Joan is also a much sought after voice-over coach. She is signed exclusively with Innovative Artists in New York City.

Joan’s professional voice-over credits include the Muhammad Ali Center’s Olympic TV Campaign; narrating a documentary about the founding of the William Jefferson Clinton Library, now a part of the library’s permanent display; voicing the role of Kathy Brown in a special NBC presentation, “The 50th Anniversary of Brown vs Board of Education”; and being tapped for a marketing campaign to promote the ABC SuperSign in Times Square. Other clients include: King World, ESPN, MSNBC, ABC News, WABC, Bloomberg TV and radio, Showtime, HBO, Nickelodeon, NBA Entertainment, Court TV, Fox 5, Imus in the Morning, American Red Cross, Olay, Lens Express, Sony Music, JP Morgan Chase, American Express, Costco, and others.

Joan has lent her voice as the live show announcer for the Museum of the Moving Image Salute to Will Smith at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, The Vision Awards at the Beverly Hilton, NAMIC conferences, the Annual Matrix Awards for Women in Cable at the Waldorf Astoria, and PROMAX/BDA Conferences. She has been featured in Broadcast & Cable, Adweek, Backstage, Media Week, Cable World, Jet, and Post Magazine. Also on television’s Weekend Vibe, Showbiz Today on CNN, and E! News.

In addition to performing voice-over, Joan has for more than ten years taught speech and voice-over technique at New York University, the Professional Performing Arts School (NYC), and Western Kentucky University. She is the creator of “Make Millions with Your Voice,” a national voice-over career seminar in partnership with The Learning Annex. Joan also provides private voice coaching for corporate executives and other non-entertainment professionals seeking to enhance their public speaking skills for stage and on camera.

Joan is a founding partner of Manhattan-based advertising firm Push Creative, a company specializing in branding and production for television. Joan is right at home juggling her performance career while taking on the new challenges of running an ad company. And her contributions have not gone unnoticed by the industry; she’s won five Promax/BDA Awards, two Excellence in Multi-Cultural Marketing Awards, and four Telly Awards.
